Ankara, September 22, 2025 — Turkey has officially lifted additional customs duties on a range of goods imported from the United States. The decision came into effect immediately upon publication in the country’s official gazette.
The removal of tariffs concerns products that had been subject to higher duties since 2018, introduced during the trade conflict under former US President Donald Trump. The list includes passenger cars, fruits, rice, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, solid fuels, and certain categories of chemical products.
The timing of the decision coincided with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to New York, where he is attending the UN General Assembly and holding bilateral meetings, which experts view as a political and economic signal.
Positive Impact on the Region
Experts note that lifting trade barriers could help reduce prices for imported goods in Turkey and improve conditions for businesses oriented towards foreign markets. The decision also strengthens confidence in the Turkish economy and creates a more predictable environment for investors.
Since the economy of Northern Cyprus is closely linked to Turkey, improved trade relations between Ankara and Washington are seen as a positive factor for the entire region. Openness and cooperation form a stronger economic base, which positively reflects on overall investment attractiveness.
